Cold Cement Shoe Making Process

Cold cement shoe making process is a bonding process in which it is not needed to place the upper into an oven to attach the upper to the outsole. The outsole unit is fully cured, which is made of EVA foam and rubber. Water massed in solvent-based and PU cement is used to attach the lasted upper and the sole unit.
Heating tunnels are not needed to dry the cement and surface primer in the Cold Cementing. Two layers of shoe cement and one layer of surface primer are received normally by the upper and outsole before fitting them together. A hydraulic ram is utilized to press the parts once the parts fit together. Parts are pressed from the sides, top, and front to back so that there should not be any gap after the pressing process.

What is the Cold Cement Shoe Assembly Process?

You can prepare the upper part of the shoe with the Strobel’s bottom in the cold cement shoe assembly process. The outsole covers the upper edge of these running shoes. So, the shoes are made more flexible and lighter by using Strobel’s bottom. To make the material of the shoe soft, the shoe upper is steamed. Throughout the process, the last is inserted as well as pulled tight.
Another lasting machine comes into play once the last is tight inside the upper. This second machine pulls the heel edge. The upper is cooled down to shrink the upper tightly with the last once the temporary shoe-laces are pulled tight and last is secured inside the upper. The fabric may be used to protect the shoe’s surface. Hence, the shoe may have a fabric or a plastic part installed on top of the tongue for the protection of the surface from drift as well as the damage during the lasting operations.
The sole unit is made ready while the upper is being lasted. In such a scenario, a rubber sheet sole and the EVA foam cushioning component cemented inside is combined. This is done in the Stock fitting process, which is a separate process.

Primer & Cement Coating

Both pieces come together once the outside unit is complete after the upper last tightly.  At the moment, the rubber sole unit gets a coating of cement and primer. The outsole gets a special primer, which is its own specifically designed primer for EVA and rubber. Additionally, the upper part of the shoe upper is prepared with its own specifically designed primer and cement.
The primer and the cement are fully dried by using the heating tunnel after their contact.  Both the pieces are joined together and the outsole, as well as the upper of the shoe, is aligned to place it in a hydraulic process.
Pressing Process
Normally, the shoes undergo 3 pressing operations with one machine. These are a vertical press, heel and toe press, and side pressing. These 3 pressing operations ensure that there is no space left in between and full contact between the outsole and the upper is ensured. To set the glue, the shoe is put in the cooling tunnel once the shoe is pressed together. After the cooling tunnel, to push the last out of the shoe, a shoe de-lasting machine is used without wrinkling the upper.
The sneakers are completely ready now. This is the time when you can insert the footbed. The footbed may be molded EVA with a flat sheet cut foam or a fabric cover. The molded footbeds are most often removable while the flat die-cut footbed is normally cemented inside the shoe. This new sneaker is fully ready for a quick check for any loose threads, packing, cleaning, and a final QC inspection.
